Power System Protection Co-ordination

Protection coordination plans from Jacobsen elektro includes data for HV components, control system and relays, system calculations, coordination analysis and protection settings.
Assisted by a Protection Documentation tool called ProDoc most aspects of component properties and system conditions are evaluated. With all information at hand the protection engineer efficiently sets the protection systems to operate reliably during faults. This increases the safety for the utility staff and for the public, and contributes to the optimal operation of the power network

  • Protecting people and equipment during high-voltage faults

  • Reducing consumer outage time during system disturbances

  • Well coordinated  protection gives reliable power system operation

  • We specify, coordinate and install any protection from any manufacturer

  • Experts in Power System transmission, distribution, generation and industry

The process

During protection coordination a considerable amount of information is collected and stored

  • Present and future system configurations.

  • Information of planned expansions.

  • Data on high-voltage component like lines, transformers, generators, capacitors, motors etc.

  • Short circuit data, earth-fault data and the result of system calculations and analysis

  • Descriptions of relay software/hardware including commissioning and maintenance instructions

  • Descriptions and principles of measuring systems, trip circuits and circuit breakers.

  • Information of the coordination principles between different relays, fuses etc.

When the data collection is finished the data can be processed:

  • Extensive power system calculations

  • Relay coordination calculations and coordination studies

  • Selection of relay settings

  • Documentation of conditions for choices

  • Report errors or deviations and proposed improvements

Finally the equipment is taken into service:

  • Present an

  • Installation and testing

  • Commissioning

  • Testing and maintenance

  • Re-evaluation of coordination plans or the physical configuration

  • Decommissioning and removal of hardware and software by the end of its useful lifetime

Information is collected processed & evaluated by protection experts
