On the 5th of November 2008,
H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially commissioned the
Namanve 50 MW Thermal Power Plant built by Jacobsen elektro. The
construction of the power plant started 1st of November 2007 and it went into commercial operation already the 16th of September 2008,
a month ahead of schedule.
The plant is located in Namanve, Mukono district, just
outside Kampala, and it comprises seven 18V32 Wärtsilä engines that
produces a total of 50 MW. The power is transferred through two 11/33kV
transformers to the adjacent substation, and fed into the transmission
system. Jacobsen Uganda Power Plant Company (JUPPCL) will own, operate
and transfer the plant to the Government of Uganda, after a period
of six years. |
